Morgan's Raid, Battle of Salineville (New Lisbon) and surrender site
Confederate General John Hunt Morgan led his cavalry on a raid through parts of Indiana and Ohio in 1863. The raid marked the northernmost incursion by Confederate forces and ended with Morgan's surrender near West Point, Columbiana County. Markers are located at Salineville (Battle of Salineville, Route 39, approximately 3.4 miles west of Salineville) and near West Point (Surrender, Route 518, between Gavers and West Point.) Note that the marker is no longer at the rest stop (now abandoned) where it was located for many years and for most of its existence has not been on the surrender site). Other markers have been placed along Morgan's route over the years, and in 2013 the Ohio Historical Society was placing a series of markers tracing the entire route.

The Civil War collection also contains tens of thousands of photographs.
